Staff and callers described repeated electrical shorting on a county backhoe. The machine has intermittently tripped breakers and is currently inoperable. Commissioners and staff discussed using a temporary rented excavator or backhoe to keep the transfer station operational, contacting local mechanics (Rick and John Bullock were named), and weighing daily versus weekly rental costs. Staff said they would pursue a month-long rental to bridge until repairs or a replacement are secured.
Staff also reported moving full battery collection bins to proper disposal and that union and position-description work remains in progress.
The commission directed staff to continue coordination with mechanics and vendors, pursue short-term rentals where necessary, and keep the commission informed of cost and schedule implications.
