Fayette County sets county trick-or-treat for Oct. 31, will ask municipalities to coordinate dates

A commissioner noted municipalities currently schedule trick-or-treat on several different nights, which can draw large crowds to a single town. "If you do it all on the same night, then it does prevent that happening because there are they're gonna find it and they're gonna go," a commissioner said, describing safety and traffic concerns.
Commissioners discussed exceptions for Sundays and Friday-night conflicts with high-school football; the final motion specified Oct. 31 for the county this year and authorized staff to send a letter asking municipalities to coordinate future dates. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Separately, the commission directed staff to send the coordination letter to municipal leaders and to the county clerk to facilitate outreach. The county emphasized the action was a county designation and not a mandate on municipalities.
