Huntsville ISD board approves posted library‑materials list required by Senate Bill 13

HUNTSVILLE — The Huntsville Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to approve the district's posted library‑materials list required by Senate Bill 13 after a presentation from Deputy Superintendent Marcus Forney.

Forney told trustees the initial list was large because it reflected a full catalog review and that “since this law is new, it's going to be a work in progress as we go throughout the school district.” He said the appraisal of materials included classroom libraries as well as campus collections and that materials deemed profane or indecent were excluded from the posted list. Forney also said the district used multiple digital‑review tools and is exploring artificial‑intelligence assistance to speed review of digital and print holdings.

The item was introduced as an action item and Trustee JT Langley made the motion to approve the posted list. President Holland called for those in favor, and the motion passed unanimously.
