Borough: Amtrak bridge project will start utility work and limited night work; schedule to be publicized

At the Oct. 16 meeting staff reported the Amtrak bridge project has moved into coordination and utility phases. Staff has set recurring biweekly coordination calls with the design engineer, construction management team and the contractor to manage upcoming work and says the chosen metal finish for the bridge is finalized.
The next major activity will be utility connections. Staff warned that some utility work will require night shifts because Amtrak service requires shutdown windows for safety and the electrical catenary must be de-energized for certain operations. "They have to actually shut down the line. Like, they turn off the electricity to the line... That all has to get completely shut down, and they have lead time so that it can only be shut down for so long after a train passes through," staff said.
Staff said the contractor will provide a schedule for anticipated night work and the borough will advertise those dates to residents living near the project prior to the work.
