Council approves license to allow borough trash trucks access to privately sold parking lot

Council voted unanimously on Oct. 16 to approve a license agreement granting borough trash-collection vehicles access to dumpsters on a parking lot along Haverford Avenue that was sold to a private developer as part of a land development transaction.
Council President Bush and other members described the agreement as a continuation of existing trash-collection arrangements for the businesses and apartments that use the lot. Staff said the agreement preserves the borough's ability to have collection vehicles access the dumpsters until a future development changes circulation or until the property owner switches to private hauling.
One council member clarified the indemnification language and noted the license allows the property owner to terminate the license if the owner adopts private trash-hauling for the development. The council emphasized that the dumpsters are intended for the businesses fronting the lot, not for residents who do not have trash service tied to those businesses.
The motion to approve the dumpster license agreement carried unanimously (recorded as six affirmative votes by raised hand).
