Monticello council confirms two new firefighters as department moves toward full staffing

The Monticello City Council on Oct. 14 approved mayoral appointments of David Alder and Andrew Feiler to the Monticello Fire and Rescue Department, a vote recorded by roll call.
Councilors and staff thanked the new appointees. During the appointments discussion a staff member identified as Pete said the department was at 19 of 23 funded positions, and the hires were presented as part of ongoing staffing efforts. The council approved the appointments by roll call with all recorded members voting in favor.
City staff and the fire chief also provided a monthly activity summary later in the meeting noting 46 calls for service in September, training exercises, a garage and shed fire response, and upcoming community outreach events. The council did not place further conditions on the appointments at the Oct. 14 meeting.
