Walker County Commissioners approve 2025–26 budget and multiple contracts, purchases and variances

Walker County Commissioners Court approved a package of budget, procurement and contract items during its Oct. 20 regular meeting.
The court adopted Order 2026‑O7, the county budget for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2025 and ending Sept. 30, 2026. Staff described carry‑forwards in Road & Bridge and project funds and noted an EMS revenue deposit from the ambulance support payment program that will be added to medical supplies.
Separately, the court approved multiple procurement actions and contract applications:
- Emergency purchase of one VHF repeater (Station 2) and purchase of an additional VHF repeater for the hospital (not to exceed $20,000 from departmental project funds). (Agenda items 14 and 15) - Purchase of two VHF control stations compatible with the county’s automated voice notification console. (Item 15) - Purchase of a mag‑locked door for the justice center (about $9,096) from project funds. (Item 19) - Renewal of BFIS insurance for EMS (effective Oct. 1, 2025). Staff noted two new ambulances and a Tahoe were added to the schedule. - Purchase of a John Deere S6M105 cab tractor through a Texas procurement contract for Road & Bridge Precinct 2. - Purchase and payment approval for a body for a county truck through an existing cooperative contract (not to exceed $31,000).
The court also approved two contract applications under the Texas General Land Office disaster recovery reallocation program (BRRP 3011450 and ERRP 3011451), which staff said together relate to more than $2 million in project work. Several variances and plats were approved (including items 33–35) and the court authorized the district attorney to execute a settlement in cause number 2531898 after an executive session.
Most procurement items were approved by motion with the court taking voice votes; staff noted that any necessary insurance certificates or indemnity agreements would be required for events or county property use as conditions when applicable.
