Courthouse project nears finish; commissioners weigh exterior door locking, signage and contingency spending

Nathan summarized recent spending and reallocations: “I have not spent anything directly out of contingency, but this total reflects the reallocation of 14,900 and dollar $900.50 from contingency to our IT and furniture, fixtures, and equipment appropriations within the project budget,” he said, adding that between those two budgets about $36,000 remains available and a handful of small invoices remain. He said final drywall, paint and some wallpaper repairs will occur this week and that remaining furniture orders were being corrected.
Staff described plans for exterior signage and a weather-protected exterior display case for agendas and notices. Commissioners discussed locking the exterior vestibule doors to reduce vandalism and weather exposure and whether locking should be on a timer or handled by maintenance; staff said exterior entry currently opens into a vestibule with interior mag locks and that fobs control access to the interior.
Commissioners asked staff to obtain cost estimates for locking the outside doors and noted any final security decisions will depend on contingency and small remaining project funds.
