EDA: demolition bids posted for three High Street buildings; 1220 High Street docs under review with $563,000 estimate

City staff gave an itemized property update at the Oct. 21 EDA meeting.
Staff said the demolition package for 1028 High Street (including 1013 and 1015 High Street) has been posted and will remain open until Nov. 18 at 2:00 p.m.; a pre-bid conference onsite is scheduled and separate contractors will be engaged to cap water and sewer to support demolition permitting. "The package has been posted, and it will be open until November 18," staff said.
For 1117 and 1121 High Street, staff said those packages had not yet been posted but expected to be posted before the next EDA meeting. For 1220 High Street, staff reported the city received construction documents earlier in the month and that those documents are currently under departmental review; staff estimated the city review would conclude by Nov. 29. The consultant’s cost estimate for renovation and roof replacement at 1220 High Street was reported as $563,000 ($212 per square foot).
On 934 High Street staff said utility work is being coordinated with public utilities and Dominion Energy to restore water and power; once utilities are restored staff plan to coordinate an EDA site visit.
No votes were taken on the property updates; staff said several projects will proceed to procurement and bidding in the coming weeks.
