District reports: school lunch claims healthy, maintenance projects underway, Internet procurement to change providers

Child nutrition director Miss Hicks said the district collected about $421,000 for September’s reimbursement claim, reported a clean summer-school audit with no findings, and said the federal government shutdown had not yet affected USDA support; she encouraged board members to visit school cafeterias during National School Lunch Week.
Maintenance director Mr. Shirley reviewed projects: Lakeview’s baseball scoreboard was installed and wiring scheduled; windows in the old Martheville gym and junior-high buildings were replaced or scheduled for replacement; modular-classroom metering has been completed and the fire marshal’s final inspection was expected; exterior doors across the district have been rekeyed to a district master key (except Marthaville, which was not part of the grant); an electrical outage at Natchitoches Central required canceling one school day but was repaired and tested.
Miss Palmer, finance/facilities lead, said the district received multiple bids for Internet service. Staff recommended the lowest-cost responsive bidder based on their scoring matrix and noted material cost savings for a five-year contract compared with the current provider, Unity Fiber. No contract award was finalized at the meeting.
Board members thanked staff for the reports and asked follow-up questions about playground equipment donations, remaining door work and some localized water-valve and electrical repairs. No formal actions were taken.
