The council approved a variance to reduce the rear-yard setback at 207 Clydesdale Road from 30 feet to 15 feet so the property owner may obtain a permit to finish a proposed pool and regularize an existing deck and stair configuration.
City staff explained that part of the deck and the stair casing are within the required rear setback and that the stairs had been replaced in 2018 under a permit. The applicant said the deck footprint was not changed during the 2018 repairs and that the stairs were existing; he said his family had held the property since 2016 via right of survivorship and that some structural elements dated to prior owners in the 1980s.
Council members reviewed available permit files and satellite imagery to confirm the deck and stairs predated the current ownership. No members of the public spoke in opposition. A councilmember moved to approve the variance allowing 15 feet into the 30-foot rear setback; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Staff confirmed the approval is effective immediately and the applicant was advised to verify pool placement with a survey prior to construction.
