The Department of Examiners of Public Accounts issued unmodified opinions on Limestone County Board of Education’s FY2024 financial statements and major federal programs but recorded one finding that the district submitted its general purpose financial statements to the Alabama State Department of Education late.
The Department of Examiners of Public Accounts presented an audit of Limestone County Board of Education financials covering Oct. 1, 2023, through Sept. 30, 2024, and issued unmodified opinions on the board’s financial statements and on its major federal financial assistance programs, officials said.
"We issued an unmodified opinion on the board's financial statements, which is the best opinion we can issue," April Perser of the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts said during the meeting. She added the auditors also issued an unmodified opinion on the board's major federal programs, including the Child Nutrition Program cluster and the COVID-19 Education Stabilization Fund.
The audit did include one reportable finding (2024-001): Limestone County did not submit its general purpose financial statements to the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) on or before Nov. 1 as required. Perser said the district submitted those statements to ALSDE on March 13, 2025. The auditors recommended the board implement policies and procedures to ensure timely submission in future years. The full audit report is available on the Alabama legislature audit reports website, Perser said.
No other compliance exceptions were noted in Perser’s presentation. The board did not take any formal vote on the audit presentation itself during the meeting.
