PGCPS posts new ERP RFP; staff aim to start Oracle Cloud work early 2026 with multiyear rollout

Prince George's County Public Schools's technology leadership reported on Oct. 15 that the district has reposted a narrowed request for proposals for an enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation to migrate its aging Oracle system to Oracle Cloud.

"ERPs are complex, massive, business information systems," Dr. Zuckerman, chief of technology, told the committee. He said the district's current Oracle instance is about 23 years old and approaching end of useful life; Oracle has extended vendor support timelines but the district seeks a cloud migration to improve performance and maintain support.

Zuckerman described three pillars for the migration: human capital management and payroll, financials (purchasing, accounting) and budget. He said the original RFP was too broad and was narrowed before reposting; the revised RFP was posted within hours of the committee meeting. Staff expect to complete vendor selection in about 6–8 weeks and, if the schedule holds, to begin vendor‑assisted work in January or February 2026. Dr. Zuckerman said a full implementation typically takes 3–5 years and emphasized the need for extensive workflow design, data migration and testing to avoid payroll or benefits disruptions.

Board members asked about the long timeline and the order of pillars; Zuckerman said teams commonly start with payroll and human capital because that data feeds many other modules but that the implementer's discovery may change sequencing.

No committee votes were taken on the ERP procurement update.
