Board approves transportation, utility and equipment contracts, and right-of-way steps for Bunker Lake roundabout

The Anoka County Board on Oct. 7 approved multiple transportation-related items on the consent agenda, including right-of-way steps for a Bunker Lake Boulevard single-lane roundabout (Ham Lake), a joint-powers agreement and construction planning for a roadway in Nowthen, subsurface utility-engineering work for intersections in Blaine, and a three-year equipment lease for front-loaders used in winter operations.
Resolutions TR40 and TR41 authorized right-of-way plat preparation and acquisition activities needed to construct the roundabout at Bunker Lake Boulevard and Naples Street in Ham Lake; county staff said acquisition work is required to secure permanent and temporary easements for grading, curbing and drainage associated with the roundabout. A joint-powers agreement with the City of Nowthen (contract C001-1437) sets agency cost and maintenance responsibilities for reconstruction of Bow Street between 181st Avenue and Viking Boulevard; construction is planned for 2026 following a December bid advertisement.
The board also approved contract C001186 with T2 Utility Engineers for subsurface utility engineering ($165,789) to locate underground utilities in advance of planned intersection improvements in Blaine, work the county said is being advanced in coordination with MnDOT’s Trunk Highway 65 project. Finally commissioners approved a three-year Komatsu Financial lease (C0011908) for front-loaders (annualized cost in the contract) to support the county snow-and-ice program; the county said multi-year lease pricing is intended to moderate year-to-year spikes in equipment costs.
