Hardy County Health Department administrator Bill Wires told the commission the department has moved into new space and requested two actions: reappointment of Nicole Keller to the Board of Health for a five‑year term and commission approval of a $25 fee for processing environmental records requests.
Wires said the department has been fielding numerous realtor and buyer requests to pull decades‑old well and environmental records, some requiring substantial staff time because files may be 60 years old or properties have changed names multiple times. “Some take an hour. Some take 2 hours,” Wires said, asking for the fee to be authorized so staff can charge when appropriate.
Commissioners confirmed the records fee item was listed under new business (records policy/regulation approval) and moved to include the $25 fee in the county’s records policy; commissioners also moved to reappoint Nicole Keller for a five‑year term. The motions were made and seconded during the meeting with no recorded objections.
Wires also briefed commissioners on committee on aging activity, noting an engineer had inspected a building and the committee’s new executive director was advancing efforts; he said West Virginia University Hospitals had been “supportive of the venture” regarding a potential dialysis center.
The commission did not adopt additional conditions on the fee in the discussion recorded in the transcript; staff said they would return the policy language for formal signature and implementation.
