Commission approves WeGo park-and-ride site plan contingent on city council zoning approval

The Murfreesboro Planning Commission on Oct. 15 approved the WeGo Public Transit park-and-ride site plan for a 0.73-acre parcel along Bridge Avenue, with the condition that city council first approve the requested zone change.
Ms. Smith summarized the site-plan elements, including two existing access points on Bridge Avenue (one of which Tennessee Department of Transportation will require to be closed to right-in/right-out), pedestrian connectivity along the westerly property edge, enhanced lighting near the pedestrian route, two security cameras and coordination with the adjacent transit center. She said staff and the city team including police reviewed lighting, landscaping and fencing locations and that the project will be scheduled for a December city-council public hearing to consider the rezone.
Commissioners moved and seconded a motion to approve the site plan “provided the city council approves the zone change,” and the motion passed by unanimous roll call.
Ms. Smith noted a small right-of-way dedication is included in the plan to allow for a possible future extension of a right-turn lane; construction and final approval remain contingent on the council’s decision about the zone change.
No public comment was recorded during the presentation. Staff said the applicant is ready to begin construction after required approvals.
