Zach Whitmire, deputy public works director, told the council on Oct. 14 that work on the Grindline‑built Connor Park skate park — including the expansion approved in September — has progressed through drainage and most forming work and is now in the phase of forming ledges, banks and bowl walls.
Whitmire said the contractor is about 70% complete overall, noting that once the "shotcrete" (shot creating) and the non‑flat elements are finished, the flat pours will move quickly. He estimated the original mid‑November completion date will shift to mid‑December because of the expansion scope and weather contingencies; crews are prepared to use tents to maintain momentum during rain events.
Council members thanked staff and volunteer ad hoc participants for their involvement in design adjustments that led to the expansion. Whitmire said the park’s larger bowl walls are about 8 to 8.5 feet high and that the expansion overlooks the whole park and the gold pan feature.
No council action was required; the presentation was informational.
