Akron City Council unanimously approved Oct. 20 an ordinance authorizing a home‑based beauty salon at 483 Howe Street.
Mr. Antonucci told council the petitioner, Bianca Robinson, is a licensed cosmetologist and aesthetician and plans to offer haircare and services such as facials, waxing and eyebrow tinting by appointment only, Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. He said the petitioner anticipates two to four customers per day and that parking for a single vehicle is available on the east side of the dwelling.
Bianca Robinson thanked council and members of the public voiced support, noting the potential benefits of cosmetology services for survivors and community members. A public commenter urged the city to provide financial and other support for entrepreneurs in similar positions.
Planning staff and the planning commission recommended approval subject to conditions. Councilman Fusco pulled the committee report for a favorable recommendation, the council suspended rules and approved the ordinance; the clerk recorded the vote as 11–0 in favor.
