Akron City Council voted 11–0 Oct. 20 to adopt an ordinance authorizing a conditional use to retain a three‑unit apartment at 892 Delia Avenue, following a planning‑staff recommendation that certain housing‑code issues be corrected.
Mr. Antonucci said the three‑story dwelling, built in 1928, contains one unit per floor and that the petitioner purchased the property in February 2023. The petitioner made interior renovations including new windows, floors, counters and updated plumbing and electrical; each unit also has a separate electric panel and hot water tank. Planning staff supported retention of the three‑family dwelling provided the third‑floor ceiling height can be brought into compliance with the housing code.
During public comment, residents raised concerns about housing conditions citywide, including mold and lead, describing prior negative experiences with inspections and asking for inspections and enforcement to focus on interior habitability as well as exterior appearances.
Council members acknowledged those comments and noted the housing division had inspected the property and identified ceiling‑height issues on the third floor that must be corrected before a permit for occupancy is issued. The committee reported favorably and the council suspended the rules and passed the ordinance; the clerk recorded the vote as 11–0.
