Staff to continue identifying sites for higher-density housing to satisfy state reporting requirement

Jeff, a staff member working on the housing report, said the city had no findings on the report but still has one unfulfilled requirement: "we committed that we would identify properties in the city that could be considered for higher density development," he said. Council members and staff discussed possible benchmarks and parameters for what would satisfy the state requirement; staff emphasized the city does not have to adopt rezoning or require redevelopment, only to identify properties for consideration in the report.
Council members agreed to have the planning commission continue work and to schedule the item for a future agenda. Staff said the commission will prepare a draft that could be an amendment to the general plan or a separate supporting document.
