The Lakota Board of Education on Oct. 7 approved a five‑year contract with its website vendor to add a chat or Q&A feature across the district website.
Staff described the feature as a site‑wide tool that can guide visitors to policies, attendance information, schedules and the master facilities resources. Staff said the tool is compatible with mobile apps, can surface links, and can be turned on immediately while vendor billing would not begin until the following fiscal year.
Board members who tested the tool said it guides unfamiliar users through navigation and can provide links to the documents discussed in the master facilities outreach. Staff said the feature will be used for the district’s facilities information as well as standard site topics such as policies and attendance.
Motion and vote: A motion to approve the final five‑year website contract was moved and seconded. The board took a roll‑call vote and the motion passed.
Why it matters: The feature is intended to improve access to district materials and reduce misinformation by providing direct links to official documents and event schedules during a time‑sensitive outreach period.
What’s next: Staff will activate the chat/Q&A feature and integrate it with the district site; the feature will also be used to route public questions to scheduled Q&A sessions during master facilities outreach.
