Summary
The council approved an interlocal agreement with SPAN Transportation for FY2025–26 services for seniors, veterans and individuals with disabilities not to exceed $18,000, noting a COG grant of $100,000 will be applied to Corinth riders aged 65 and older or disabled and staff raised the prospect of a larger future grant.
The City Council unanimously approved an interlocal agreement with SPAN Transportation to provide transportation services for senior citizens, veterans and individuals with disabilities for fiscal year 2025–26 in an amount not to exceed $18,000.
City staff said follow-up meetings with SPAN and the Council of Governments (COG) confirmed a $100,000 grant that will be applied to riders in the Lake Cities who are 65 and older or disabled; staff said that cohort represents Corinth’s ridership. Because of that grant, staff reduced the budget request from a previously discussed $40,000 to $18,000 and told council they do not anticipate expending the full $18,000 unless the grant situation changes or ridership spikes.
The agreement also raised the permitted number of non-medical trips from four per week to six per week. Ricky Dela Paz, director of transportation for SPAN, provided operational context and a rough figure for last year’s local spend: staff said the city paid about $18,000 last year (invoices arrive after the fact) and that prior operation had relied on grant funding until it lapsed.
A council member moved to approve the interlocal agreement as presented; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
