Sequim staff set Nov. 17 joint meeting with Planning Commission as Comprehensive Plan nears land‑use review

Carla Bowden, interim director of the Community Development Department, told the City Council Oct. 13 that the Comprehensive Plan update is progressing and that the Planning Commission recently completed a pivotal work study session on the future land‑use map.

“We are really coming down to the close to the last few elements,” Bowden said, and she noted that staff and consultant Leland Consulting will finalize a market analysis for housing and jobs that will be posted on the city website. Bowden said the land‑use chapter will be presented to the Planning Commission at the next meeting and that the council and Planning Commission will hold a joint session on Nov. 17 to review the results.

Bowden said the housing chapter will close out the year and that staff will then turn to the capital facilities plan. She emphasized that changes to state law affecting housing require careful attention in the plan’s housing and economic development chapters.

Council members praised the recent Planning Commission work session and asked staff to post consultant materials on the city website for public review. Bowden said staff would post the market analysis and the packet material in the coming days and that the public process will include a Planning Commission hearing followed by council review.
