Police report: 89 calls in two weeks, body‑worn camera grant applied for, new cruiser on track

The police chief told the council the department handled 89 calls for service in the past two weeks and has used directed patrols to address several quality‑of‑life complaints; community feedback suggests those problems are easing.
“We've had to do some sort of directed patrols. Feedback I'm getting from them is that the issues have kind of started to resolve themselves,” the chief said. The department also appointed Sergeant Crouch to work with the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force; the chief said the partnership will help the village pursue warrants and assist the task force as needed.
The department applied for a body‑worn camera grant that would cover up to 10 cameras and associated cloud service; the chief said he expects to know whether the application is approved by the end of the year or early next year. A new cruiser is in production, the chief said, with a projected pickup timeframe of late this month or early next month, and officers are completing required computer‑based training hours for the year.
The chief also reminded the council of an upcoming community trunk‑or‑treat event planned for Saturday at Reilly Park, and said speed‑camera installation remains delayed but is targeted for December.
