Governance committee advances slate of Group B policies, standardizes philosophy language

The Fairfax County School Board Governance Committee reviewed a group of administrative and human‑resources policies (Group B) and agreed to standardize the opening philosophy to begin with "the school board affirms its belief" in multiple policies. Committee members agreed by unanimous consent to forward four policies to the full board for action.
Committee members and staff said the edits are largely formulaic: substituting a standardized opening phrase to the philosophy sections and making minor cleanups. The four policies the committee identified to send forward without objection were: Policy 2660 (voluntary uniforms in public schools), Policy 4101 (responsibilities of the Department of Human Resources), Policy 4140 (physical and mental medical examinations) and Policy 4230 (assignment of personnel). Chair Miss Marin said the changes are not substantive policy shifts but align language across multiple policies.
Mister Frisch told members he had circulated the redlines by email and the clerk confirmed those proposed edits were available for the committee. The chair said the committee would return remaining Group B policies for further review at a subsequent meeting and set a plan for items that require more extensive edits.
The committee also agreed to move four of the Group B items forward immediately and asked staff to update the documents and include them in the full‑board package.
