Board management asked the policy committee on Oct. 14 to clarify vacation-accrual rules for nonrepresented managerial and confidential employees under policy 9501, saying the district has encountered ambiguous situations for confidential, managerial and administrative staff.
A presenter said typical accrual practice for those positions is about 20 days per year, in addition to school-calendar time off and holidays, and that the district should benchmark neighboring districts for recruitment competitiveness. The presenter estimated the affected group is small—roughly 15 to 20 managerial/confidential employees such as the treasurer, district clerk and library director.
Legal counsel told the committee he believed the current system was "fair" and that the number of days and accrual approach "is not out of line" with expectations. Committee members asked staff to research district comparators and to craft clearer accrual language for new hires so that managerial and confidential employees understand how leave accrues and how it is used.
Outcome: staff to research peer districts and return with recommended, clarified language for policy 9501.
