The Cannon Falls Area Schools Board on Nov. 1 approved a humanities travel program for juniors and seniors to visit Venice, Florence, Assisi and Rome in June 2027.
Board members heard a short presentation from chaperones Nicolette Kearney and Holly Winget, who have accompanied students on prior trips. The district stipulated that students must successfully complete the humanities course to participate.
A board member asked whether the district or taxpayers fund the trip; a board member responded that the trip is "100% paid for by the students and their families." The board then moved and voted to approve the trip by voice vote; the chair announced the motion carried.
The board did not authorize district funding or staff-paid travel costs; fundraising by students and families was discussed as ongoing. The board record shows the motion was seconded and approved during the meeting.
