Enbridge representatives told the Mackinac Straits Corridor Authority on Oct. 17 that regulatory review and agency information requests remain the primary workstream for the company on the Line 5 tunnel project.

"Michael did a very thorough update on the permitting, for us. That's still very much the segment of the project that we are in," Anna Mooney, Enbridge government relations, said. She said agencies have been issuing data requests and the company's team has focused on responding to those requests since public-comment periods closed.

Mooney noted that the initial EGLE permit Enbridge received was issued in February 2021 after applications filed in April 2020. She also told the board Enbridge operates an information center on State Street that displays tunnel technology and project visuals and is open to visitors.

The authority also received Enbridge's August and September monthly reports; staff said the reports and outreach statistics are included in the public packet and available on the project website.

Why it matters: Agency data requests and draft-permit reviews can extend project schedules and trigger additional technical analysis. The company's public-facing information resources and monthly reporting provide information to residents and stakeholders.
