Della Tafoya, head cheer coach for Pueblo County High School, asked the board to note the cheer team's regional competition on Nov. 9 and the team's history of receiving national bids.
Tafoya said the team has received a bid to nationals the past five years and that this season the regional event will determine whether they receive a national bid again. If the team earns a bid, the travel window presented to the board would be Jan. 28 through Feb. 2 for competition at the ESPN Center in Orlando, Florida. Tafoya described the trip as expensive and said fundraising is underway to offset costs for team members; she did not provide specific dollar amounts to the board during the presentation.
Board members acknowledged the request and the team's recent competitive history. No formal district-funded commitment was recorded in the meeting minutes.
