Community theater seeks city help; county commissioner highlights VA access, snowplowing and federal road funds

Corey Rotherwell, who runs the Fountain Community Theater, used the public comment portion of the Oct. 14 meeting to reintroduce himself to the council and to request a follow-up meeting to explore promotional partnerships with the city's new communications director.
"Fountain has a theater. We've had a theater since 02/2014, but it's not super well publicized," Rotherwell said. He asked to "touch base" with city communications staff and noted the theater sits next to Fountain Middle School.
County Commissioner Corey Applegate (El Paso County, District 4) followed with a county update. He said El Paso County's budget position is stable, reported the county will add snowplowing responsibility for a few streets in the Peaceful Valley neighborhood under a recent agreement with the city, and said county leaders are exploring ways to expand VA services in the south county to serve returning service members and veterans.
Applegate also noted congressional-directed spending for a stretch of South Academy and expressed hope that a contractor will complete a roadway improvement early next year; he invited the council to follow up with the county on specific project timelines and to contact Colorado Department of Transportation for cleanup of state-owned stretches of road.
No formal council action was taken on the public comments; Rotherwell and Applegate were given time on the agenda to speak and council members and staff offered to follow up.
