Pueblo County School District 70 board accepts school donations, approves routine motions

The Pueblo County School District 70 Board of Education on its October meeting accepted donations and recognized staff while carrying several routine motions.
Victoria Padilla, principal at Vineland Elementary School, told the board that grandparents Sean and Karen Martin donated $1,000 “to support our school's safety and security efforts.” She said, “Their donation will fund the installation of additional cameras to cover areas not currently visible with our existing system.”
Board members heard additional gifts for Pleasant View Middle School, including a community contribution described during the meeting as $1,500 for an attendance incentive program (the presenter initially said a larger number and then clarified the amount). Frank Genova of Genova Construction donated a handrail for new pickleball courts; the board noted a ribbon cutting scheduled for Oct. 15. Brian Romano, assistant principal at Vineland Middle School, reported a donated 22-by-22 concrete pad from Langston Concrete (estimated at $7,000) for a Gaga pit and a $5,000 donation from Siete Construction to purchase athletic mats. Mark Coopman, assistant principal and athletic director at Pueblo West High School, reported $1,500 from the Department of Golfers Memorial Association, $6,000 from the Watt Foundation directed at golf programs, a mascot uniform valued at about $5,235 from the Lucas Family Foundation, and a $500 donation from Cycle and Car Wash for volleyball.
The board voted to accept the gifts as presented. The meeting record shows the vote carried with the same members recorded in roll call each time: John Christiansen (yes), Crystal Luca (yes), Kathy Holland (yes), Anne Och (yes) and AJ Wilson (yes).
The board also used the meeting to recognize two district employees. A PCEA spotlight honored Julia McManus for peer-nominated efforts to build community and support colleagues. The board also recognized Rick Romero, the district electrician, for handling an increased workload and completing repairs that saved the district money.
In procedural business, the board approved the regular meeting at the start of the session and later approved the consent agenda; both motions were seconded and recorded as carried by roll call.
The board announced its next regular meeting for Oct. 21, 2025, at the Educational Services Center and adjourned.
