Board recognizes state champion marching band, athletics milestones and student advisory appointments

Plainfield North High School’s Marching Tigers were honored for winning the Illinois Class 5A state championship on Oct. 11 and receiving top honors for music performance and general effect.
Board members also recognized the Plainfield Central High School girls flag‑football team for becoming regional champions in the sport’s inaugural district season; the team lost in the sectional final. The board praised students, directors and families for their leadership and support.
During the public‑recognition segment the district’s director of community relations, Linda Taylor, presented certificates to two students — Plainfield North junior Simi Kalawala and Plainfield South sophomore Miranda Moreno Valdez — who were selected for the Illinois State Board of Education Student Advisory Council for the 2025–26 academic year. Taylor said the council gives students an opportunity to advise the state board on education policy. The district posted a story and photos on its website.
