The foundation awarded five Bonnie Macbeth early learning grants totaling $5,585 to educators selected from 28 applications. The foundation also awarded a one‑time $5,000 Bonnie Macbeth school grant to an eight‑teacher team to attend a two‑day professional conference in March 2026; the foundation said that school grant could be awarded periodically in future years.
The foundation announced two new scholarships available beginning this year: the Thomas Hernandez Memorial Scholarship for aspiring journalists (named for former communications director Tom Hernandez) and a scholarship honoring Carla Altham for students studying visual arts; applications open Nov. 3 and are due March 13. The foundation also promoted a district family night with the Chicago Wolves on Nov. 8 and said a portion of ticket proceeds will support scholarships, teacher grants and special programs.
