Milton schedules Nov. 3 public hearing on critical‑areas code update tied to periodic comp‑plan review

Milton — Planning Manager Stalenecker presented the first reading of Ordinance 2125‑25 on Monday, describing it as the final step in Milton’s 2024 periodic comprehensive‑plan update for critical areas. Stalenecker said the changes are largely technical updates to definitions and procedures to align the city’s code with a checklist provided by the Washington State Department of Ecology.
“We went through the checklist and you're basically looking at we have the requirements,” Stalenecker said. Staff incorporated comments received from the Department of Natural Resources and said the state’s 60‑day comment period closes Oct. 28. Stalenecker emphasized that “there's no policy changes suggested. It's just, for the most part or all of it is aligning with what the state requires.”
A public hearing on the ordinance is scheduled for Nov. 3; staff said action can be taken that night. The council did not vote on the ordinance at the first reading.
Next steps: staff will incorporate any additional state or public comments received during the remainder of the comment period and return the ordinance for public hearing and possible council action on Nov. 3.
