Beresford council approves sewer and development pay requests, final Sager payment and new ballpark backstop

The council approved a progress payment of $625,477.19 to Munson (Mussel) Brothers for sanitary sewer lining work under the city's sanitary sewer improvement CIP. Council records show the work includes roughly 12,000 feet of 8-inch sewer lining and service lateral repairs; staff said the contractor has been completing sections on a rotating schedule and that punch-list items remain for some phases.
Council also authorized pay request #19 (final) to SiteWorks Incorporated for the Sager wastewater facility improvement in the amount of $71,150, indicating the punch list is complete and the system is operating.
In addition, the council approved pay request #5 for Metro Construction Inc. for the Bak housing development in the amount of $391,029.13. Staff said the payment reflects recent concrete work and that asphalt placement is expected if weather conditions remain favorable.
On recreational capital, the council accepted a proposal from American Fence Company for a new retractable netting and modular backstop system at Lawrence Field. The council approved the first three options of the bid, with a total price announced in the meeting as $92,912; the contract requires a 60% deposit with final payment upon completion next year.
Other formal actions on the consent/motion calendar included:
- Approval of a step pay increase for Officer Colton Laubach, effective Oct. 6 (hourly rate increased from $30.34 to $31.14). - Authorization to hire part-time librarian Alyssa (Lisa) Hawkins at $17.91 per hour. - Approval of a Union County property tax abatement request related to the local Housing and Redevelopment Commission in the amount of $1,458.58.
