Evan Kagan, director of the Middleton Cross Plains Education Foundation, presented the foundation's annual update to the board on Oct. 13, describing grants, family supports and recent projects funded with community donations.
Kagan said the foundation's volunteer board is 18 members and summarized three main focus areas: innovative teacher grants, essential‑items support for students and scholarships. He reported the foundation has funded more than 170 teacher grants since inception and referenced cumulative grant funding "for almost a 169,000" (as stated in the presentation). The foundation supported district weekend food efforts last school year with 7,742 bags distributed and helped sustain caring closets that served more than 300 families monthly with items such as hygiene products and footwear.
Kagan noted scholarship work that has supported 406 students with about $475,000 in awards. The foundation has also contributed to targeted needs such as driver’s‑education scholarships (about 11 students supported this coming year), instrument replacement for band and orchestra (about $34,000), a Grow‑Your‑Own teacher program ($15,000 in 2023), and served as fiscal agent for a new outdoor sports/recreation stadium. The foundation also funds inclusive murals and a book campaign focused on diverse titles.
The board and foundation recognized Amber (foundation staff) on her announced retirement, thanking her for six years of service. No board action was required on the update; the foundation invited community members to learn more and donate via a QR code provided in the presentation.
