Anthony Wayne students win national FCCLA awards; district honors staff of the year

Anthony Wayne students and advisors reported national competitive success and leadership honors at the Oct. 3 board meeting.
Kaylin Schaller, a Penta Career Center family and consumer sciences teacher representing FCCLA, introduced 15 students who attended the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Orlando. Students described projects they developed beginning in October of the prior year and reported top national placements, including gold medals in career investigation and food innovations, silver in focus on children, and other national-level awards. Student Grant Hubley described serving as FCCLA National First Vice President and said Anthony Wayne and Penta Career Center were "one of the strongest chapters with multiple national placers" (00:57:45).
The board also presented staff recognitions. Matt Smith and others presented Mary Dressel as a certified staff member of the year, praising her classroom practice and empathy. Administrators recognized Brian DeKay for his instructional innovation and extracurricular work building an esports program and Claudine Strayer as classified staff member of the year for her central-office and school-office contributions.
Superintendent Herman and board members congratulated students and staff and said the presentations illustrated the district's academic and extracurricular strengths.
