Yukon council approves Main Street operating support grant application and $50,000 reallocation

The Yukon City Council approved a Main Street operating support grant application and a budget reallocation not to exceed $50,000 to support the newly independent Yukon Main Street Association’s 2026 grant efforts.
Council members described the Main Street Association as a newly independent 501(c)(3) that will apply for competitive grant funds to beautify and economically develop Yukon’s downtown and commercial corridors. Council member Zimmerman sponsored the motion and said the funds will act as seed money while the association raises additional private and public support.
Steven Kerr, chairman of the Main Street Association, was present and told the council he is “excited to become the 501(c)(3) and raise funds to beautify Yukon.” The council authorized the city manager and city attorney to make necessary final adjustments to the application prior to submission.
The motion passed by unanimous vote.
