The board held a first reading of proposed edits to Policy 5120 (attendance and boundaries) that add or clarify routing and which addresses feed which elementary schools.
Staff reviewed the mapping and proposed edits line-by-line. Changes include adding Gabrielli Court to the Shelter Rock attendance area; specifying Mill Spring Road address-number ranges with an exception for 207 Mill Spring Road; clarifying Chapel Road address ranges (with an exception for 112 Chapel Road); and reordering Manhasset Crest and Estates language to reflect geographic order. Staff told trustees the edits were vetted with Miss Frederickson and are meant to ensure accurate busing and routing; they confirmed no students would be reassigned to different elementary schools as a result of these language updates.
Trustees requested a minor ordering change (to list Estates 2 then Manhasset Crest then Estates 1 for clarity along Searingtown Road). The board agreed to modify the order and return the policy for a second reading. One trustee asked for a short explanation of how school-district boundaries are set at a macro level; staff replied that boundaries reflect mapping, zoning and historical allocations and that they would provide additional detail at the next meeting.
No formal vote was taken on the boundary language during the first reading; the policy will return with the requested ordering change and clarifications.
