The La Plata Town Council on Aug. 12 appointed Emily Whale to a five-year term on the planning commission and David Jenkins as the nonvoting alternate member.
Town Manager Chuck Stevens said the appointments align with town code and the planning commission's need to fill two vacancies. Planning Commission Chair Don Banks and Planning Director Don Dooley interviewed both candidates and recommended the appointments; the planning commission and council ex officio member Councilman Guttenberg supported the nominations.
Council members praised Whale's enthusiasm for planning and Jenkins's subject-matter experience and mentorship potential for newer planning commissioners. Councilmembers noted Jenkins has indicated he may relocate in roughly a year but said the alternate role would remain useful during that period and the council would fill any vacancy if the seat became open midterm.
The council voted by roll call to approve both appointments.
