A human resources presenter briefed the board on staffing and certification progress, workforce initiatives and substitute-teacher recruitment.
The presenter said Deer Creek currently employs 548 certified staff, 280 support staff and 128 guest teachers, for a total of 828 employees — an increase of 16 employees from last year. The presenter said 77 new certified teachers and 44 new support staff were added this year.
On certification, the presenter said 12 staff members are on emergency certificates (down from 27 the prior year) and two are on adjunct certificates (down from 10). She said the district has focused on supporting staff through certification pathways, increasing hires from student-teacher placements and partnering with local colleges and cohorts taught by district leadership.
The presenter described plans to develop a teacher cadet program and to continue leadership-development pipelines such as the Teacher Leader Development Academy and a University of Central Oklahoma cohort. The presenter also reported guest-teacher fill rates have improved from the mid-60s/70s percent range to roughly 85 percent, helped by pay increases, foundation incentives and increased training.
Board members asked clarifying questions on certification pathways and program logistics; the presenter responded that timelines vary by employee depending on prior coursework and state requirements.
