Board clears YMCA Turkey Trot and Sanctified Souls benefit ride and concert permits

The Portage Board of Works approved two community events: the Portage Township YMCA Turkey Trot on Nov. 27 and the Sanctified Souls benefit motorcycle ride and concert on June 27, 2026.
YMCA representative Erin said the route is the same as last year and that the group had coordinated logistics and safety with the Portage Police Department. "We've already worked with the Portage Police Department, to cover logistics and safety," Erin said; the board approved the route by voice vote.
A representative of Sanctified Souls, a 501(c)(3) charity new chapter called Lakefront Area, requested temporary street closures to stage 100–150 motorcycles and later host three bands, food trucks and a concert. Staff confirmed closures should remain north of the fire-department entrances and noted an incorrect date on the application that the applicant corrected to June 27, 2026. The board voted to approve the ride and concert; the applicant said volunteers will manage staging and traffic control during setup and breakdown.
