Mineola trustees approve multiple change orders for PTAS well treatment project

Trustees also approved change order No. 8, which shifts $50,851.50 from the general contract to the plumbing contract. Palumbo told trustees the transfer decreases the general contract’s bid item 6 and increases the plumbing contract by the same dollar amount; he described the action as a reallocation between contracts to reflect actual work responsibilities. The motion carried after a trustee motion and second.
Change order No. 9 to the plumbing contract covers the rehabilitation of a clear well that was found to be leaking. Palumbo said the work will cost $177,553 and will be performed by Benson Contracting Inc.; the funding will come from bid item 6, the allowance for additional work. He warned that after this change order “no funds remain in bid item 6.” The board approved the change order.
Separately, the board approved change order No. 1 for the Well 1 Phase 2 plumbing contract to comply with Nassau County Department of Health requests. Palumbo said the change order includes caustic piping changes, a new eyewash station and a new exhaust fan at a cost of $15,013.30; Benson Contracting Inc. is the contract vendor and the work is funded from bid item 2. Trustees voted to approve the measure.
Each resolution was presented during the public works/engineering portion of the meeting and approved by vote. The board’s actions reallocate existing bid allowances and authorize the specific repairs described above; no new revenue sources or bond authorizations were introduced during the discussion.
Palumbo and trustees did not present numerical vote tallies for individual board members on the transcript; each motion passed when the board responded “Aye” and the chair announced the motion carried.
