Board approves financial claims and consent calendar; one member objects to technology buyback

The York County School Board approved financial claims for June and July and a procurement resolution during its Aug. 25 meeting.

Finance staff presented a long list of vendor payments for instructional and technology items, food service and construction. Mr. Pajovic summarized expenditures and said "payments for technology related items totaling approximately $860,225" for the June list and later described July IT expenditures of approximately $1,127,915 tied to device replacement and teacher device refresh.

A motion by Mr. Pajevich to approve financial matters, seconded by Mr. Richardson, passed 5–0. The meeting then moved to the consent calendar, which included approval of personnel actions, minutes from multiple meetings, donations, and authorization items including a buyback agreement with CDW Government LLC for devices. One board member moved to remove two items—minutes from meetings she did not attend and authorization for the CDW buyback—citing concerns about the district's 1:1 Chromebook strategy and student screen time; the motion did not receive a second.

The consent calendar motion, moved by Mr. Pajevich and seconded by Mr. Schaffer, passed on a recorded vote: Mr. Schaffer yes, Mrs. Fairman no, Mr. Richardson yes, Mr. Pajevich yes, Mrs. Goodwin yes (4–1). The board also approved resolution 25‑49 related to Virginia Public School Authority bonds for student‑based technology with a stated VPSA allocation of $544,000 to York County and a local match of $108,800; that resolution passed 5–0.

No items were pulled for separate action at the meeting; the board later entered closed session on a legal homeschool matter.
