School division proposes adding BCBA position funded by competitive grant requiring local match
Summary
The board heard a proposed pay-plan update to add a board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA) funded by a competitive grant from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice; the grant is renewable up to four years and requires a local match, and the position would become locally funded if the grant ends and the division chose to retain it.

Dr. Reitz, the division's chief of human resources, proposed adding a board‑certified behavior analyst (BCBA) to the pay plan at the York County School Board meeting Aug. 25, saying the division earned a competitive grant through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice that will cover personnel, training and support for the position.
"We are proposing to add a board certified behavior analyst which we refer to as a BCBA to our pay plan and we're able to add this to our pay plan because YCSD was awarded a competitive grant through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justices," Reitz told the board.
Reitz said the grant is renewable for up to four years and requires a local match based on the annual local composite index. When asked whether the position would be eliminated after four years if the grant did not continue, Reitz said the position would become part of the local budget if the division chose to continue it.
A board member asked about the funding split for the grant; the presentation included a stated grant total of $126,000 but the transcript's numeric split was unclear. The board did not take formal action at the meeting; the pay-plan change was presented for board consideration and will move through the division's administrative and budgeting process.
