Moe Amar, speaking for families and community members, described discussions with relatives and said Kimber Vincent — sister of the pilot and wife of one of the passengers — told the group, “I would love to see a bench on the water,” and that the family favored a bench for quiet visits. Amar also thanked city staff and local volunteers who helped identify a site and a donor who offered to cover bench costs.
City Manager Matt Morgenson told the council staff had located a suitable bench site and would coordinate with the family on final wording and placement. Council members expressed condolences and support; Council Member Garfield said the bench would be a small way to honor the three men and their ties to the Monterey Bay diving community.
Members of the diving community and private recovery teams identified individuals involved in the recovery and thanked first responders. Amar said the group hoped the bench would be installed within “the next couple months,” after family review of the inscription and final fundraising details.
Next steps: staff will coordinate design, inscription language and siting with the family and the donor, then report back to council with a timeline for installation. No formal council action or appropriation was taken at the meeting.
