Director Blackburn explained the hire is funded by a previously budgeted certified position and drawn from the district’s teacher pipeline. The candidate has worked in the district, is enrolled in the district’s Grow‑Your‑Own program through Kansas State University and currently does not meet standard alternative‑authorization requirements; Idaho allows an emergency provisional for one school year in such circumstances. Blackburn said the teacher will be assigned a mentor and will receive the same induction supports as other early‑career teachers while completing program requirements.
Trustees moved and seconded the authorization, and the motion carried. Administration said it will apply for standard alternative authorization once the candidate has met the state requirements in 2026‑27.
