Saunders Road water-main repair set for week of Oct. 20; contractor may be picketed over prevailing-wage audit

Director of Community Services Wick told trustees that the Saunders Road STP contract with Builders Paving is pending central-office approval and that work to repair a water-main break at Brayburn and Saunders Road is anticipated to begin the week of Oct. 20. Notices were reportedly delivered to local residents the afternoon before the meeting.

Wick said traffic disruptions should be minimal: work will use flaggers and generally keep only one lane closed at a time. He also warned that Clover Construction, a contractor for other projects, is being audited by the U.S. Department of Labor for alleged prevailing-wage violations and that organizers may picket the forthcoming Saunders Road work. "We fully expect that project to get picketed because Clover Construction is being audited by the Department of Labor," Wick said.

Trustees asked about prevailing-wage documentation. Director Vasquez explained recent changes put the onus on vendors to submit certified payroll to the state; the village nevertheless keeps copies of certified payroll when vendors provide them with invoices and can require submission as a condition of payment. Trustees said the village has a responsibility to ensure vendors pay prevailing wages where required.

No formal action was taken; staff said they will monitor the contract approval process and coordinate resident notifications and traffic control measures when the work begins.
