The Clermont County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 15 authorized county staff to advertise a request for competitive sealed proposals to upgrade the county's microwave backhaul network that supports radio communications among public‑safety agencies and dispatch.
Jess, director of the Clermont County Department of Public Safety, said the backhaul is the county’s radio network "between all the 11 tower sites within the county and then one in Northern Kentucky" that enables public‑safety radios and dispatch to communicate. The county’s consultant assessment recommended a substantial update to preserve reliability and to reduce single points of failure and long parts lead times.
The board authorized placing a legal notice in a newspaper of general circulation for two consecutive weeks beginning Oct. 23, 2025, and setting a proposal deadline of 2 p.m. local time on Dec. 22, 2025. The procurement will follow Ohio Rev. Code §307.862 and related procedures for electronic posting and public opening of proposals.
Why it matters: the backhaul network underpins radio interoperability for first responders and other county services; staff said the upgrade is intended to ensure continued communications reliability for at least 15 years and to provide spare equipment to avoid prolonged outages.
