Residents urge board to rescind sports-drink ban at Keith Park baseball fields

"This policy represents an effective tax on baseball players, bringing kids and parents specifically to the baseball fields," said Chris Savoy, a resident, arguing the rule forces families to purchase sports drinks at concession stands and can disadvantage people who cannot afford them. "I encourage the board today to put forth a motion to rescind the policy of the restriction on sports drinks being brought by individuals into the baseball areas of Keith's Park," he said.
Another resident, Nela Savoy, spoke in support, saying people need electrolytes in the heat and urging better on-site options while noting water is also available.
Neither comment resulted in board action during the meeting; the remarks were part of the public-comment portion of the agenda. Staff or the board did not announce a plan to change the policy during the Oct. 23 meeting.
